Traveling for business offers both excitement and challenges, especially when it comes to packing. Whether you’re jetting off to a neighboring city or crossing borders for an international conference, having the right essentials makes all the difference.
In my experience, balancing style, functionality, and practicality in travel wardrobe and accessories is key to feeling confident during work travel. In this blog post, I’ll cover a comprehensive packing list tailored to your needs so that you arrive prepared for any business trip. From must-have gadgets to versatile clothing items, I’ll have you covered with everything you need to pack for business travel domestically or abroad. Let’s dive into the essentials!
Business Trip Packing List: 8 Travel Essentials
#1 An Iconic & Office-Ready Airport Fit
Look, I’m all for dressing like a tired rat on an airplane; hair in a bun, sloppy t-shirt and pj pants on, ready to watch three movies and brain rot. But imagine my horror when I walked past the president of my organization while boarding a plane looking like I'd just crawled across the New York subway tracks. Save yourself the embarrassment and wear an outfit that maximizes comfort, but could be worn in an office setting.
Some of my favorite business trip plane outfits include stretchy waist linen trousers, sweatpants that sneakily look like business attire, and simple t-shirts that can be dressed up with a button-down or sweater. Check out some looks below for inspo:

#2 Office Attire that Fits in a Carry-On
If your business trips are anything like mine, expect to pull some early mornings and late nights on the run. Maximize your capsule wardrobe with neutral toned t’s, simple dresses, and comfortable slacks that keep you comfortable. Don’t be afraid to transition outfits into the evening for after-work dinners and drinks. Maximize your space by planning to re-wear certain items like jackets and pants. Here's how I'd take a simple outfit from day to night:

#3 Evening Outfits that Keep it Classy
What’s a business trip without some after-work drinks with your work besties? Leave your “going out” top at home and opt for clothes that cover the midriff and hit fingertip length. It’s okay to dress more casually for after-hours events, but you should always be prepared to see the big boss out and about. I love wearing maxi dresses or two-piece sets that offer stylish comfort for the evenings.
#4 Athleisure for the Early Mornings & Exploration
Carving out a little “me” time is essential to finding peace during a work trip. Whether you're checking out the Insta-worthy coffee shop in town, roaming the city square, or simply getting some steps in at the hotel gym, it’s important to have some basic athleisure to accommodate the activity. A pair of leggings and a comfy t-shirt never take up that much space and are worthy additions to your carry-on suitcase.
#5 Versatile Jackets
If you’re a cold girl like me, consider the weather and seasons at your destination and pack accordingly. If you’ve read my travel blogs, you know I practically live in my oversized denim jacket. Other solid options include quilted jackets or chunky sweaters that keep you warm in the air conditioning. Shop some inspo here:

#6 Your Desk in a Suitcase
Save some space in your bag for a couple of office essentials. I’ve never regretted having extra pens, a notebook, paper clips, and a highlighter in my bag. Consider bringing an envelope to collect receipts for expense reports, too. It’s also helpful to pre-print any materials you plan to pass out or share during meetings and carry them with you on your trip.
#7 Tech to Take with You
Once I forgot my laptop charger on a business trip; it was one of the most chaotic events of my career. Double-check that you have the necessary computers, chargers, adapters, and hard drives to complete your job. If you work in digital marketing like me, think about compact lighting rigs, LAV mics, and external batteries to ensure you can capture content on the ground. I recently started packing my chargers in a separate bag like this one and it's been a real game-changer!
#8 Proper Identification
If you’re visiting another office or checking into an offsite conference, consider bringing your work badge or provided event credentials with you. Of course, you should also plan to pack your usual identification to board a plane. If you’re traveling internationally, double-check that your passport is valid for your intended destination and work with your organization to gain any work visas required for travel. Take the time to make yourself aware of your company’s travel and expense policies to ensure you’re following them.
